RANDBURG - I am writing this letter out of desperation, in the hope that one of your readers can point me in the right direction.

I am writing this letter out of desperation, in the hope that one of your readers can point me in the right direction.

I applied for a citizenship certificate at Randburg Home Affairs Department on 10 April 2012.

This document, printed on an official letterhead states in 2 lines that the “applicant” is a South African citizen by birth. After application, I waited the obligatory 6 – 8 weeks.

To cut a very long story short and besides having resubmitted documents, birth certificates, having spent hours on the phone, been provided with a case number, been passed from one official to another, sincerely promised yet again on 3 March 2014 that the document could be collected in a week, I went in again this morning only to be told it is not there!!

I am at my wits’ end. I need this document urgently, that is why I originally applied well ahead of time. It is beyond my understanding why a simple document such as this, can take over two years, and heaven knows how many more years. Is there anyone who can put me in touch with a responsible official who can assist me? I truly do not know which way to turn anymore.

At Caxton, we employ humans to generate daily fresh news, not AI intervention. Happy reading!
