Toe victim plans on suing City Power for injuries sustained due to negligence
RANDBURG – Residents unhappy with electric shocks and outages caused by smart meter installations.
Noordhang resident Ian Nicholson (55), who was allegedly shocked by electricity and lost part of his toe due to an incorrect smart meter installation two months ago, said that he will try sue City Power for damages.
“I am in the process of attempting to sue City power,” he told the Randburg Sun on 4 June, and added that his shoulder is still sore from the incident.
Ward 115 councillor Chris Santana did not think Nicholson would be successful in suing City Power, because Nicholson arranged for an electrician to fix the alleged incorrect wiring, and there was not sufficient proof of an incorrect installation.
City Power spokesperson Sol Masolo has still not responded since the incident.
Randburg Sun has also received complaints from residents about alleged incorrect smart meter installations that blew their electricity and permanently disabled their appliances to which Masolo also did not respond.
“We lost two TVs, a gaming console, sound system, microwave oven, scanner/copier/printer and ADSL router,” said the latest complainant, Ferndale resident Huibre Schonken.
“It left us no option but to phone an electrical company, who then informed us the neutral wires were not connected correctly by City Power after installing the smart meter. This little exercise has left us out of pocket by quite an amount, and I doubt we’ll see a cent of that back from them.”
