Schoolgirl hit by car in Linden

LINDEN - A child gets knocked over and yet another theft out of motor vehicle at school reported.

Both Linden Neighbourhood Watch (LNW) and Hoërskool Linden confirmed that a child was knocked over on the corner of 6th Street and 3rd Avenue while on her way to school yesterday, 11 June.

LNW chairperson Fareed Hoosen, stated that the child was injured and had to be rushed to Helen Joseph Memorial Hospital by ER24 for treatment.

Hoosen also reported that yet another theft out of motor vehicle happened close to Laerskool Louw Geldenhuys. “A mother parked at Denmar complex (not far from the primary school) to take one child to school, while the other child waited in the car.”

He continues to say that the mother could not remember whether she locked the child in the car or not.

While the child sat waiting in the front seat, a man climbed in to the back of the car, but got out again as soon as he saw the child. The man then went to the boot, where he opened it and took the woman’s company laptop.

“What would have happened if they had taken the child?” asked Hoosen. “Or [if]they decided to confront the suspect and find that he is armed?”

According to Hoosen, this is just one of multiple cases of this kind near schools in the area, and criminals keep targeting parents taking or fetching their children from schools because “they are easy targets.”

He has pleaded with Linden residents to always check that their cars are locked and make sure that no valuables are visible in the vehicle.
