Support pink trees in Randburg

Randburg will see their trees plastered in Pink again this year in support of Cancer awareness.

The women of Pink trees for Pauline are brightening up Randburg trees again on 15 October at 8am at the Fairway Hotel.

This project is supported by the Randburg Dameskring, a cultural organisation for Christian Afrikaans speaking women.

The idea was conceived in Graaff-Reinet.

A woman by the name of Carol-Ann had a dream to change the streets of Graaff-Reinet overnight into a pink fantasy, by covering all the trees on the pavement in front of homes, parks, cemeteries, and at the entrance into the town, in pink.

This dream was realised on 19 October 2012.

The bonus was that the town and neighbouring towns’ people were alerted to the consciousness of cancer and more than R200 000 were donated to the local cancer association.

To many people this was also the final steps in their acceptance and clearance of the trauma to have lost someone to this illness, raise money for cancer awareness and to assist cancer patients with counselling, caring, nursing and, food.

Graaff-Reinet joined their local cancer association and started selling metres of pink fabric door-to-door at a minimum of R20 per metre.

A sponsor originally donated the pink material for this purpose, and more donations were received from businesses that eventually added up to R10 000.

If you want to join the campaign and cover the trees in your street with pink fabric please see the details below.
