Beer for the elderly

BORDEAUX – Garden Village hosts Oktoberfest to socialise and promote home.

Residents of Garden Village, Bordeaux, indulged a little more than usual during an afternoon lunch on 23 October.

This was because the retirement village hosted its annual Oktoberfest/Beerfest.

The lunch was German-themed with alcoholic drinks distributed within acceptable means.

Drinks ranged from different beers to shandy, and one resident even brought a bottle of KWV Sauvignon Blanc. Frankfurters, cold meats and sausages were enjoyed, complemented by red coleslaw and honey mustard baby potato salad with crispy bacon. Afterwards, apple strudel with cream was served.

“We do this to promote the home, for the residents to socialise and for the residents to bring family,” said the matron of the village Antoinette Visser. She said that promotional lunches occur at the village every month, and the Oktoberfest/Beerfest has taken place in October for the last four years. “I enjoyed it,” resident Eileen Nel said. “I always do.” She added that the lunch had a good vibe.
