200 car seats installed

RANDBURG - Wheels in motion for the 94.7 Highveld Stereo and Wheel Well initiative hands out 200 car seats on 1 November.

Wheel Well and 94.7 Highveld Stereo’s Breakfast Express hand out 200 car seats at Bright Water Commons on 30 November for child road safety.

Peggie Mars is the founder of Wheel Well, a non-profit company that specialises in the safety of children on roads.

The drive to collect donated car seats was started by Mars, ”We are working toward the road safety of children, with just over 200 car seats. I feel like this will contribute considerably to the safety of our children.”

Each car seat was safety checked, cleaned or re-upholstered before donating them to the public.

Imperial and Advanced Driving Institute helped sponsor and organise the event; 94.7 Highveld Stereos’ Breakfast Express presenters Samantha

Cowen and Darren Simpson encourage listeners to donate their unwanted car seats to the cause. Over 200 car seats were installed and handed over to the public; a team of volunteers assisted and installed the car seats into the vehicles that arrived. Other members of the 94.7 Highveld Stereo’ Breakfast Express team attended the event to show their support such as Philicity Reeken, Samantha Cowen, Darren Simpson and Ravi Naidoo.

”Road safety is an important condition and issue for Imperial; we would like to aid in the education of South Africans to behave

responsibly – this is integral to our values and corporate responsibility,” commented Niki Cronje, Group Marketing at Imperial I-Pledge.

The parking lot was jam-packed with many vehicles lining up from 7am. There were four bays where each car drove through and parked in

order to get a car seat installed. Local resident Adalaina Storbeck, who lined up for a car seat explains, ”I am so excited to be here today, I have been

waiting a long time to get a car seat; this is a good idea, the whole country needs to be doing this.”

Peggi Mars said, ”This has been a great success; the turnout of cars is incredible which reassures us that our hard work will be making a difference.”
