Vega graduate wins iPhoneography competition

RANDBURG - Lynsey Huges a graduate from Vega School.

Lynsey Hughes, is the overall winner of the iPhoneography competition organised by iStore in association with

Marc Forrester at iPhoneographyZA.

Her image entitled Found was voted the best among 5 000 entries; she received her prize at an award ceremony at the Apple iStore in Sandton, Johannesburg in October.

Hughes is a graduate of the Vega School of Photography in Randburg, a brand of The Independent Institute of Education (IIE), with an Advanced Certificate in Professional Photography.

Her winning image focuses on a cow’s skull being held above teff grass.

The image was taken in June while on holiday at her boyfriend’s farm in the Free State.

Hughes explained that a storm was approaching and, after finding the ideal composition, she shot the image as quickly as possible to capture the light. “This is the first time I’ve won an award like this and it came as a complete surprise.”

She mentioned that her training at Vega definitely helped her.

“I’m always taking pics with my phone, it’s so convenient and so easy to share with everyone within minutes of taking something.”

Co-founder of Vega Dr Carla Enslin said, “We are exceptionally proud of Lynsey’s achievement and believe this just solidifies her life calling along with the training she received through Vega.”

The annual competition offers photographers an easy entering process. All candidates need to do is go through the purely digital photographic process, using Apple’s iPhone camera as a primary tool in capturing and creating photographic images.
