Fight against drugs in Windsor
WINDSOR – The Local Drug Action Committee (LDAC), law officials and residents of Windsor march for a drug-free community
Chants of “Don’t buy drugs! Don’t sell drugs! Don’t take drugs,” could be heard on 6 December, on the roads of Windsor West and East.
The day was scorching hot with strong winds, however this did not stop the Local Action Drug Committee, law officials, City of Johannesburg and residents of Windsor from marching against drugs in their community.
In the aim of creating awareness about drugs and the severity of it, pamphlets were handed out by the marchers to people on the street, motorists driving by and residents standing outside their homes.
Steve Msasho, a resident of Windsor said, “The most important thing that I want, is to get rid of drugs.”
Motorists driving by hooted and gave their thumbs-up to the cause.
JMPD and SAPS members escorted the marchers through the streets of Windsor East and West.
They sounded-off their sirens now and then to get people’s attention.
Some residents were so impressed by the march that they decided to join in, and held up the main banner against drugs.
“We are hoping for a bit more people to join in the future; we have to stand up together to fight the scourge of drugs,” said chairperson of LDAC Sharon Peters.
Sergeant Orden Masumpa of Linden SAPS said, “The message from the march is powerful and it makes traffic stand still and people actually listen to it.”
Peters said enthusiastically that this fight against the scourge of drugs in Windsor can and will be won!
