Platina Street bridge flooded

JUKSKEI PARK – If anyone had been crossing they would have been swept away, says resident.

The Klein Jukskei River flooded the Platina Street bridge, Jukskei Park, in the early morning hours of 17 February.

Local photographer Brian Farrell said that when he arrived at the bridge later in the morning the water line on the trees nearby were higher than cars would have been, if they were on the bridge.

“Thank goodness nobody was crossing [the bridge],” he said, suggesting that they would have been swept away.

Resident Sandor Brachner said that his wife had intended to drive over the bridge, but had to find another route, as the bridge was “gone”.

Numerous reports of flooded houses were heard throughout Randburg on the day.
