Resident Fanie Joubert was left frustrated when he found his pavement dug up and left in a state after an electric smart meter was installed in Ferndale.
According to Joubert, construction of the smart meter began in March. Once the construction and installation were completed, the contractors left the building site unkept and broken up. “I am really unhappy about the whole situation. Most of my front paving has been destroyed to install this smart meter box,” he complained.
According to Joubert, the constructors’ tardy workmanship did further damage to his property. “When the contractors finished installing the meter, they virtually left all the excess rubble around the box, blocking our water meters and pathway. When you are driving out of the property you have to be so careful not to hit the smart meter, it is a real obstruction at night”, he said.
Joubert explained that he has been trying to phone City Power to come sort out the construction pile left after the smart meter’s installation, but to no avail. “I have only been redirected from one consultant to the next. This has been going on for the last two months,” he said.
Spokesperson for City Power Sydney Mphahele reported on 14 May that a technician has been sent out to assess the situation.
