Robin Hills Scouts wins Kon Tiki 2015
ROBIN HILLS- The young scouts of Robin Hills won the Kon Tiki 2015 competition.
The Robin Hills Scouts Group won the recent Kon Tiki 2015 competition.
The Gauteng competition was held on 16 May at Arrowe Park in Benoni, Gauteng.
Moira Bannister, Scout group leader of Robin Hills Scouts, said the South African Gauteng Scouts, organise the competition every year.
“The weekend started on Friday [15 May], when the teams arrived and started to construct the raft. The building criteria are very strict and judging takes place continuously until the raft was launched at 11 am on Saturday [16 May],” explained Bannister.
According to her, each group throughout the province selects and signs up their own teams and enters the competition.
“There were 55 teams that entered this year. There are no prizes, only the honour of winning.”
Bannister further added that judging is related to the aspect of safety to ensure that the Scouts and Guides (ages 11 to 17) are safe.
“There are also numerous other activities and competitions for the support crew to partake in, such as the Beaver Challenge, spare-time activities, dress-up competition and others.”
The 2015 theme was Here be Dragons
