Sector manager warns residents to be vigilant

KENSINGTON – Residents need to be extra vigilant and constantly watch out for criminal activity.

Many residents in the Randburg precinct, especially around Ferndale, Kensington B and Strijdom Park, are not using their security resources effectively, thus making them more vulnerable to criminal activities.

This is according to Sector 3 manager, Constable Gerry Maluleke.

He warned residents to be more vigilant.

Const Maluleke said criminals were always ahead when planning their criminal strategies and residents should always keep their gates locked.

“Even though the gardener is working outside in the yard, the gate must always be locked.”

He said sometimes residents leave their doors and windows open giving criminals an opportunity to access their homes.

“There are incidents where criminals have turned off the electric meter box of the house, in order to gain entrance,” Const Maluleke added.

He further explained that homeowners would sit in the darkness, throughout the night, thinking that they were just experiencing load shedding.

“Residents must check with their neighbours if indeed, there is no electricity. Many criminals are aware that cameras do not work when there is no electricity,” he explained.

Constable Maluleke concluded by saying that residents should always check carefully if there are vehicles following them, because criminals are always monitoring these suburbs.
