GALLERY: A fantastic Firlands fête

LINDEN – The local community come out to support the Firlands children.

The Salvation Army Firlands Children’s Home hosted its annual fundraising fête on 29 August.

The community came out in their masses in support of the children at the Home. Donations were also made months in advance to fill the various stalls at the fête with jewellery, furniture, clothing, collectables and much more. It is said that the fête featured the largest book sale in Gauteng.

In addition to the sale, it boasted a wide variety of food stalls, a DJ booth and a myriad of entertainment including rides for the children, dancers, an obedience dog show and a performance from the Remax Skydiving Team.

“It was a very successful day,” said Major Eddie de Vos, the Home’s principal. “We’re very grateful to the community for their support throughout the year. We are happy with the amount raised. It will keep us running for another year.” De Vos thanked all of those involved in the fête.

Firlands Children’s Home houses about 60 children. The Home attempts to provide a normal family environment in which the kids can develop to attain their full potential. The funds from the fête contribute to maintenance of the Home and extra mural activities for the children.
