GALLERY: Fontainebleau splashes its mods
FONTAINEBLEAU – Max My Ride Spring Splash Car Show displays some of the best modified cars in town.
Residents were not afraid to show what they had under their hoods, when the Max My Ride Spring Splash Car Show was held on 20 September. The show, including its various competitions, was held at Fontainebleau Shopping Complex and Fontainebleau Park.
Max My Ride owner Alistair Andrew explained that the event was held to promote the automotive aftermarket industry in the area. “Here we have everything from static vehicles to air-ride vehicles [different suspensions], BMWs, Golfs, Supras, Subarus, old-school Toyotas and Porsches,” he said. Competitions included a ‘low limbo’ where vehicles had to drive under a bar that lowered after each round, a sound-off for vehicles with powerful sound systems, and other contests.
JW du Toit competed with his 1996 Opel Cadet with a turbo engine because he said he likes to “show and shine my car”. “I like everything about my car,” he said. “But the engine is the best because it has a full turbo conversion from a 2L 8V to an Ecotec 16V turbo.”
Annemie Herbst brought her Opel 2L IS Cadet with a 2L 16V Superboss motor. “I came to enter the show because I love modified cars and racing them,” she said. Food and accessory stalls were also available to satisfy the event-goers.
