Sidewalk left uncovered in North Riding

NORTH RIDING – City Power has allegedly dug up a part of the sidewalk and left it uncovered, according to the resident.

The sidewalk of Bellairs Road is in a shocking state, allegedly after City Power dug up some parts of it to repair a broken cable.

According to a resident, Joseph Gulyas, the power was off during last week and City Power sent out employees to repair the cable, but they allegedly left the job incomplete.

“There is a massive stretch on the side walk where City Power dug up the cables and it has been left unrepaired. The worst is that it is at the entrance of a school that makes it almost impossible for parents to drop off or pick up their children,” said Gulyas.

Resident Joseph Gulyas says he is frustrated that City Power has not done anything to repair the dug-up part of the sidewalk.

He added that the stretch creates a big safety hazard as it makes it difficult to drive over and for pedestrians to pass.

Ward 115 councillor Chris Santana said he has spoken to City Power but has not received any response as to when this will be repaired.

“I am also sitting hands in hair as to when something will be done about this problem. It is completely out of my control,” Santana.

Santana said it is frustrating to have no control or answers for the residents in his ward.

City Power spokesperson Sydney Mphalele said they will respond on the matter on 16 October.
