Diversity inspires local interior designer
BLAIRGOWRIE – Talented interior designer Warren Walkinshaw combines antiques with modern furniture to create a contemporary environment.
Warren Walkinshaw’s passion for interior design led him on an exciting journey of creativity.
The Blairgowrie resident graduated from the Design School of Southern Africa in 2012, since then his career has been soaring to great heights. He was recently featured on Top Billing for the amazing work he did on the Blair Atholl farmhouse, that was previously owned by legendary golfer Gary Player.
“I was interviewed by Roxy Burger who made me feel comfortable along with the crew members. I remember how nervous I was for the shoot but glad that everything went well. Majority of everything that was featured in the Blair Atholl farmhouse was purchased locally,” said Walkinshaw.
The talented interior designer explained that it took three years to complete the farmhouse and he had creative control in collaboration with his clients. As an independent consultant to both architects and home owners, Walkinshaw specialises in renovating older homes that require an update in both aesthetic and re-distribution of space, modernising them without changing their external architectural character.
He described how he is inspired by elements in nature and the diverse cultures in our society.
“We have so much creativity around us that is evident in our diverse cultures. I’m also influenced by the Western culture with minimal contemporary lines, used to showcase minimal sophisticated furniture. The challenges of being an interior designer is being able to meet deadlines, remaining unique in your technique and creative delivery of the project,” explained Walkinshaw.
He is currently working on a house in the elite Mount Street in Bryanston. He has his own interior design company called W Cubed Interior Design.
