From dumping site to dog training academy
MALANSHOF – A dog training academy in Randburg now occupies an open space which used to be the home of vagrants.
An open space that used to be an illegal dumping site and was often occupied by vagrants, has turned out to be a pleasant Dog Training Academy in Randburg.
A team of dog trainers planted grass within a fenced space, regularly clean the area and conduct training classes at the site in Malanshof close to the Randburg Sports Centre grounds.
Animal trainer and behaviourist, Heidi Olivier, said that they conduct classes every Thursday to Saturday.

Their training classes include among others: puppy school, obedient classes and agility training. “We are growing. We have been here for about three years now,” she explained.
Olivier was given an opportunity to occupy the open space by the City of Joburg Council given that they maintain and clean the site.
She further explained that their Academy gives 65 per cent discounts to all dogs from Community Led Animal Welfare (CLAW).
Ward 104 Councillor Mike Wood said the team was doing a great job. “They are not only offering classes but they also keep the place tidy,” he said.
He further explained that they improved the area quite dramatically. “It is clean. They have planted the grass. Homeless people are no longer coming here,” he concluded.
