Ballet teacher welcomes all dancers

FERNDALE– Young and old are welcome to join ballet classes at the Ferndale Recreation Centre.

The Ferndale Recreation Centre offers an array of activities to residents. Among these, are ballet and modern dance classes.

Ballet teacher Yolanda Coetzee said that she has been a teacher for the past 15 years, since she was a teenager. She received a certificate in ballet teaching from the Royal Academy of Dance. She teaches with Lara van Vuuren.

“I offer modern ballet from the ages of three to 30 years years old. We also train dancers for competitions, shows, exams and festivals. Everyone is welcome at the community centre. We also welcome people with disabilities,”said Coetzee.

She added that she currently has two young dancers who are now professionals and four other dancers who are competing in America and Croatia.

“To be a ballet dancer entails hard work and dedication. A real dancer has to live and breathe it in their daily lives, and be aware that they have to sacrifice a lot of their time. There are different levels dancers go through to master their craft, such as the primary, intermediate and professional level. I train the professionals to be able to audition at places such as Joburg Ballet or the Dance Factory in Newtown,” explained Coetzee.
