Joubert Road in Fontainebleau is now a one-way

FONTAINEBLEAU – Joburg Road Agency had finally changed Joubert Road into one way.

The City of Joburg has finally heeded the call and increased pedestrian safety at Joubert Road bordering Fontainebleau Laerskool.

Joburg Road Agency (JRA) changed Joubert Road into a permanent one-way between Charlie Road and Elise Road.

This was done to increase the safety of pupils, parents and motorists travelling on that road. Ward 102 Councillor David Potter said the simple problem took over five months to be addressed.

“Pedestrians, commuters and cyclists’ safety remains important in Ward 102 and across the City, and whilst it took an age for the JRA to respond, we are thankful for their attention to this matter in the interest of safety for all,” he said.

He also explained that on each escalation of the problem, the City provided various reasons for not delivering a service. “In the latest response dated 4 May it was again reported that the outcome of the petition was still unavailable,” he explained.

Councillor Potter escalated the matter to JRA Head Office. Within hours, the requests were logged and a drawing with the required road changes was submitted to the regional depot for implementation.

Residents initially complained about the safety and even signed a petition in order for their problem to be addressed.

JRA spokesperson Bertha Peters-Scheepers said the changes to the road was finalised on 6 May. “Our aim is to ensure that we provide quality roads that are accessible and safe for pedestrians,” she said.

She explained that the road was permanently changed into a one-way. “The road was completed and is now safe,” she concluded.
