Water project nearing completion
RANDPARK RIDGE - Not all smiles for 'happy letter' yet.
With the Randpark Ridge water infrastructure replacement project coming to an end, ward councillor Laurette van Zijl is reminding residents that after months of digging up pavements, they now have a last chance to notify officials if they are not happy with the outcome of the project.
Each resident affected by the water infrastructure replacement project will need to sign a ‘happy letter’ before the Community Liaison Officer, Lebo Dibutle, can move her team of contractors to a new project.
It was previously reported that this project had Joburg Water (JW) replacing pipes along the streets of Randpark with new 110 mm width pipes. JW external communications officer, Eleanor Mavimbela said the initial deadline of December last year was extended to March due to logistical problems. The project was again extended and is now finally coming to a close.
Van Zijl said residents must only sign the ‘happy letter’ after insisting on having the pavement restored to what it was before the diggings started. Any photos of their pavements before the project started should speed up the restitution, she said.
Resident Peter Hochstadter is one such resident who is adamant that he will not sign the letter until he sees water flow through the newly installed pipes with no hindrance. Dibutle has accepted the challenge and said she is positive he will sign soon.

The replacement was part of a training project where trainee plumbers were taught on sight under the watchful eye of a project engineer.
Van Zijl said despite a few hiccups, she is relieved that the replacement is nearing completion. The project, according to Van Zijl, was initiated because of a large number of pipe bursts in the area. New pipes, water meters, fire hydrants and valves were also installed, adding to a whole new water infrastructure system in the area.
It is expected that Randpark Ridge residents will experience a day or two without water when the new pipes will be connected by JW.
Van Zijl reminded residentsthat they have the right to keep the project teams on site until all their issues have been resolved.
