Inspired by a Good Samaritan
NORTH RIDING – A group of friends plans to relaunch their feeding scheme that will provide disadvantaged communities with meals and essentials.
North Riding resident Preven Naidoo’s friend’s birthday in 2005 inspired a group of them to create a feeding scheme to assist families from informal settlements.
The Kya Sand and Zandspruit some of the communities which were provided with delicious Indian cuisine.Naidoo, who operates his catering business, Bobby’s Bistro at the Bryanston Sports Club, said he named his business after his late friend’s nickname. He passed away from a heart attack earlier this year.
“After his birthday, Yougan Naidoo inspired us to create a winter soup kitchen to feed disadvantaged communities. We also provide them with blankets, fruit, bread and cold meat,” he said.
“He was very involved in helping people with his own resources and opening up his home to those who needed it.”
He added that last year the Kya Sand community had two major fires that destroyed a number of shacks. They then provided them with blankets and food which came from their own pockets. They divided the responsibilities among each other in order to make their project a success.
“We are planning to relaunch our feeding scheme, target old-age homes, charities and children’s homes in different communities. I want to make a difference in the lives of people because many people are overlooked.
“We often have lots of food left over after we cater an event that goes to waste. We would rather donate it to those who need it.
“We welcome residents to offer us their suggestions and assistance in building our feeding scheme before we relaunch it. The group is still in the process of identifying communities to target and then a date will be set to officially relaunch.”
