The traffic lights on the corner of Bond Street and Main Avenue have been out of order for more than three weeks.
Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) admitted being aware of this problem but insisted that it was due to construction in the area. “The JRA is aware of this matter. There is currently road-widening construction taking place which has, unfortunately, resulted in repeated damage to traffic signal cables,” said the entity’s spokesperson, Bertha Peters-Scheepers.
The City will completely re-cable the signals as soon as the construction is completed. “We apologise for the inconvenience to road users and to minimise the impact, Metro police pointsmen have been requested to control traffic during peak times,” she said.
