Life Tree children see movie for the first time

The 4Ways5Roads Residents Association went above and beyond to raise funds for Life Tree Company and provide an out-of-this-world experience for the children of the organisation on 24 September.

The association, along with Ster-Kinekor in Sandton, sponsored a theatre experience for 110 children and volunteers who were given the opportunity to watch the film, The Secret Life of Pets. Many had never been to the movies before and so the trip was an opportunity of a lifetime.

Children and volunteers gathered two hours before the bus arrived.

Unfortunately, the incorrect bus, with a problematic gearbox, was sent to pick up the children and volunteers. “Along the way, we broke down, 5km from the movie house, with only 10 minutes to make it in time,” said Life Tree Company, chief executive officer Carla-Lee Kamp.

The volunteers sprang into action and managed to find four taxis in the middle of Sandton to transport the children. Chairperson of 4Ways5Roads Residents Association, Manoj Bahoola negotiated taxi fares with the drivers and soon the group was on their way.

Kamp said the sound of uncontrollable and innocent children’s laughter filled the cinema and provided a great sigh of relief for their football coach, who had succumbed to tears of sadness on the broken down bus.

The association organised giant buckets of popcorn and juice for every movie-goer, and the generous Ster-Kinekor sponsored the movie tickets.
