MUST READ: Man beaten to death following phone theft

The photo of the victim, who is believed to be in his 20s was first shared on the Cosmo City Rocks Facebook group page on Sunday.

The body of a man, beaten to death for an alleged cellphone theft according to a Facebook post, was found in Cosmo City over the weekend.
Social media users expressed different opinions over the post about the brutal murder of the victim.
The man, who has not yet been identified, was apparently stoned to death late Sunday afternoon by an angry mob.
Although police could not confirm the motive behind the man’s death, a photo of him lying in a pool of blood, surrounded by rocks and sticks, used as weapons near Bangai Street, made the rounds on Facebook, allowing users to share their thoughts on the incident.

Members of the group did not hesitate to voice their views. Comments varied – some sympathised with the manner in which he was killed and others were quick to judge. Other comments pointed fingers at foreign nationals residing in the area as the so-called masterminds of the spike in criminal activities.
One of the comments read: “It’s so sad how life is worthless to some people. He did steal but the question [is], did he deserve to die?”

Captain Mitla Dikomela from Florida police confirmed the incident. She said when a police van was dispatched to the scene, the officers were shocked to find out that no one had heard or witnessed the incident. “No one wanted to come forward with tangible information.

However, police are still investigating the murder,” she said. She added that an open wound and bruises were found on the victim’s upper body.

According to Dikomela, nobody has been arrested yet, in connection with the murder.
