Randburg police advise residents to be safe this festive season

KENSINGTON B – Randburg police give advice to residents on how to keep safe during the festive season.

Randburg police officers have warned residents within their policing precinct to be more vigilant and refrain from creating opportunities for criminals to strike during this festive season.

Spokesperson for Randburg Police Station, Captain Makgowanyana Maja said residents needed to be cautious and ensure that they reinforced their personal security measures.

Maja advised that residents who would be travelling to various holiday destinations should inform their neighbours who could help monitor their properties.

“Test your security alarms before you leave and ensure that it is working,” Maja said.

He added that criminals were always looking for opportunities to strike and warned residents not to carry a huge amount of cash with them while doing shopping.

“It is advisable to swipe your card while doing transactions as it is safer.”

Maja said motorists should ensure that their vehicles were parked at safe car parking facilities while doing shopping for the festive season.

“Always make sure that you do not leave valuable items where they can be seen by criminals in your vehicle.”

According to Maja, criminals also observe the jewellery items worn by residents. “At least leave your expensive ring at home while doing the shopping. Some people are not at the shops to do shopping, but to prey on residents.”

He warned residents who play stokvels to transfer the money into their account.

Maja thanked the Randburg Community Policing Forum and private security companies operating in the precinct, who he said were massively assisting police in the fight against crime.

“Our residents should enjoy spending time with their families and come back rejuvenated and ready to work again next year.”
