Members of Randpark Golf Club donate to charities

RANDPARK – During the year members donated prizes which were used in raffle draws.

Randpark Golf Club members have graciously contributed to their Captains Fund through raffles, donations and golfing fines.

Over the last 18 months, a total of R146 000 has been collected. Donations have been made to Africa Food for Thought, Cystic Fibrosis Association, Wilhelmina Hoskins, Northcliff Rotary, Woodside Sanctuary, Matla A Bana and Toevlugoord.

Two more charities received donations on 28 November, the Village Safe Haven Orphanage and the Look Good, Feel Better non-profit organisation that helps those women with cancer regain their confidence.

They help women facing the trauma and the stress of cancer by assisting them to overcome the distressing appearance-related side effects of their treatment. Margaret Hewson, the programme director said, “Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”

The Village Safe Haven Orphanage is a non-profit organisation in Sandton providing quality care to orphaned, abandoned, abused and HIV-positive children. Each child is loved, nurtured and given hope for the future. They currently care for 24 children and education is of prime importance. They have an independently run pre-school onsite, while the older children attend various schools in the neighbourhood. A total of R5 000 was donated by the club to assist them with their wish list for the children.

During the year, members donated prizes which were used in raffles. Donations were made by members and the Randpark Golf Club. Golf fines were handed out to team members for golfing infractions that happened during the game. These ‘fines’ generated a lot of laughter during the year and were all in good fun.

A few individual club members demonstrated kindness at a recent raffle. They requested that their great prize be raffled again at a later date so that another member can stand the chance to win in order to generate more money for charity.

Francois Swart, general manager of the club said, “A big thank you to all the members contributing during this past year, you really have made a difference in people’s lives that need it most.”
