The spirit of sisterhood, resilience and celebration filled The Garden Venue in North Riding as women in the South African Police Service (SAPS) Joburg District gathered in numbers to commemorate Women’s Day.

The event was a vibrant celebration of the strength and achievements of women in uniform, giving officers a chance to step away from the demands of policing and honour one another.

Joburg District Commissioner Major General Nonhlanhla Kubheka explained that the event aimed to give the women in the force time out to enjoy themselves without their uniforms.

“We started the operation at the beginning of the month. I had a meeting with a few women, and we decided to arrange this day to relax and celebrate Women’s Day. The turnout shows the excitement because most of the time we are always in uniform,” said Kubheka.

Dressed in elegant outfits, the women brought colour, confidence and beauty to the occasion. From their carefully chosen attire to their warm smiles, the gathering was a reminder that behind the badge are women who deserve to be recognised and celebrated.

The event also highlighted the important contribution women continue to make within the SAPS. Their dedication, courage and commitment to public safety remain an essential part of the fight against crime and the protection of vulnerable communities.

For many of the women, the gathering was more than just a celebration. It was a moment to recognise their journeys, encourage one another and draw strength from the sisterhood that exists within the service.

Kubheka said that they are also empowering female officers at lower levels to be in strategic positions. “We transfer skills, we take them to courses, we mentor the young ones. We need to pass the knowledge that we have to the young officers.”
