R50k bail on drug arrests

KENSINGTON B – A tip-off from the Ferndale community leads police to two arrests.

Two suspects appeared in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court in Kensington B for a bail application on 24 March.

The pair were arrested for possession of drugs and suspected stolen property. They were each granted R50 000 bail.

Randburg Police Station spokesperson Captain Makgowanyana Maja said, “On 15 March, at around 2am, the West Rand K9 Unit members were posted in Randburg to do their normal duties when they received information about someone with drugs at one of the premises in Ferndale.”

Maja added that the police reacted to the information provided by the community.

When they arrived at the Ferndale address, they found that the suspects had locked themselves in a room.

After police members asked to be granted access to the room, the suspects opened the door and police began to search the room.

“Upon searching the area, they found 356 wraps of drugs and three laptops suspected to be stolen [in the suspects’ possession]. They were immediately placed under arrest,” Maja explained.

Maja said the police would like to thank the community for the information they provided and urged them to continue working with the police to root out drugs and drug lords.

He encouraged residents to continue supplying information about crimes that are committed in their presence so that the perpetrators can be arrested and brought to book.

He said residents with information can call the tip-off line anonymously on 32211, or 08600 10111.
