Manhunt for housebreaking suspects

KENSINGTON B – A 43-year-old man is expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrates' Court soon

Randburg police launched a manhunt for two of three suspects who were involved in a housebreaking and robbery on the afternoon of 14 June in Bryanston.

Three suspects allegedly entered a house in Bryanston by lifting the gate from the rail. When the victim spotted them, she immediately locked herself in a room and called the police.

“The police reacted to the call and found the suspects still in the yard. When they saw the police vehicle, the driver of the suspects’ vehicle drove straight towards the police car, which was trying to block them,” said police spokesperson Captain Johannes Maja.

He said the police moved off the road to avoid colliding with the vehicle but the chase then ensued.

“Police managed to stop the vehicle in the Douglasdale policing area. They searched the suspect whom they found to be in possession of two firearms; one of the firearms had the serial number filed off, two cell phones, three pairs of balaclavas and hand gloves,” he said.

The 43-year-old suspect was arrested and is expected to appear at the Randburg Magistrates’ Court soon, to face charges of housebreaking and theft and possession of firearms and ammunition.

“Police are investigating a case of house robbery and have launched a manhunt for the remaining two suspects,” said Maja.
