Police arrest suspect after mob chases him

BORDEAUX – Randburg police arrest 22-year-old man after he allegedly stabbed a woman.

A 22-year-old suspect appeared in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court on 29 January on a charge of murder.

It is alleged that on 26 January, at about 8pm two police constables were on patrol when they noticed a group of people chasing a man in Bordeaux.

Captain Makgowanyana Maja of the Randburg Police Station said the officers also gave chase and apprehended him.

Maja added that the police asked the group of people what had happened and were told that the suspect had allegedly stabbed a woman with a knife.

“They directed the police to the corner of Bram Fischer Drive and Jan Smuts Avenue where the woman was found lying face down,” said Maja, adding she had stab wounds and an ambulance was called.

By the time the ambulance arrived, the victim had succumbed to her injuries and was certified dead.

The suspect was officially arrested and searched and the murder weapon was allegedly found in his possession.

He was detained in the Randburg Police Station cells.
