Two puppies abandoned in Blairgowrie still await suitable home

BLAIRGOWRIE – Abandoned puppies on the road to recovery after being found malnourished.

The two six-week-old pitbull-border collie mix puppies that were rescued after being abandoned in Blairgowrie, are now being nursed back to health by their foster mother.

Katherine Matthews of Pet Empowerment in Townships (Pets), said the puppies are currently with their foster mother, Kerry Elske, and are putting on weight very nicely.

“They are well on the road to recovery,” said Matthews.

About two weeks ago, the puppies were found in a box abandoned in a vacant parking lot. They were found not only to be malnourished but had ringworm and bite marks on their bodies.

She added that there has been a lot of interest in the puppies and all adoption applications are being screened.

“We do have other dogs and puppies up for adoption that there have been no applications for yet, so we are hoping that those who have applied would consider taking another pup or adult dog.”

She added that the puppies will not be homed together as it’s not a good idea to adopt littermates because behavioural problems arise during key developmental periods.

“One issue would be that the two will fight constantly, therefore, we discourage adopting siblings.”

Mathews concluded they, unfortunately, have had no luck in finding the man who abandoned the puppies.
