VIDEO: ‘Malcolm X’ shows up in Northriding, homeless men fill up their baskets
NORTHRIDING – The good Samaritan was at it again, this time in Northriding where he bought goods for two homeless men.
“Whatever you need just take it and enjoy.”
These were words uttered by BI Phakathi, a man whose videos have gone viral on social media for his random acts of kindness towards the homeless.

For two homeless men helped by Phakathi, days spent begging in Northriding must seem to be no different from the next, but on 16 September, luck would have them go on an unexpected shopping spree.
They were led to Superspar Bel-Air and there, they were given the simple task to take anything and everything they wanted.
Shocked by the request, the men did not know where to begin with such a big task, but Phakathi was adamant the men leave the store content.
The video in question opens up to viewers being introduced to Jaques, a homeless man seated on the pavement and Phakathi offers to buy him a meal. Later, joined by another homeless man, the three venture into the store and begin to shop.
The men grab a trolley and head to the food section where they take enough food to last them a couple of days.
Then they head on over to the toiletries section where they seemed to be spoiled for choice.
Worried about the price the homeless men, who also happen to be brothers, were quite concerned with how expensive everything was and were quite reluctant to take the items.
In some scenes, Jaques is seen holding his hand to his and being told not to cry.
By the end of their unexpected shopping experience, the two men wondered if Phakathi was someone famous. He left them saying he was not someone famous but rather a new friend the pair had made.
One of Phakhati’s first acts of kindness, which garnered about two million views, had him show some kindness to a homeless man from Sandton whom he took for a shopping spree at the Checkers Hyper in Sandton City.
