Here are a few tips from the Red Cross Organisation on how to manage this week’s rising temperatures:
- Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids even if you do not feel thirsty. Avoid drinks with caffeine or alcohol
- Wear loose-fitting, lightweight, light-coloured clothing. Avoid dark colours because they absorb the sun’s rays
- Ensure that your pets’ needs for water and shade are met
- Check on your animals frequently to ensure they are not suffering from the heat
- Never leave children or pets alone in enclosed vehicles
- Avoid extreme temperature changes
- Know those in your neighbourhood who are elderly, young, sick or overweight. They are more likely to become victims of excessive heat and may need help.
