The festive season is upon us

Look who decided to switch places with Santa this year

The Johannesburg West Cluster South African Police Service, together with the Hot Cares team from Hot 91.9 community radio station held the annual Montgomery Hot 91.9 Toy Run on the 24 November.

This event was held in honour of the late Warrant Officer Jonathan Montgomery, who served at the Child Protection Unit for 22 years and who passed away last year.

The Toy Run was attended by members of the South African Police Services, Community Policing Forum, the Emergency Management Services volunteers and Hot Cares, as well as family members and together, they visited a total of eight places.

The convoy left Honeydew Police Station early in the morning and visited places of safety, where youngsters were being housed, as well as old age homes, hospitals and homes for the disabled.

Gifts were given by Father Christmas from the North Pole with his fellow helpers.

A total of 92 youngsters, 40 elderly and 30 persons with disabilities were visited by Santa and his team. All the presents given out were donated by the public from a toy drive that Hot Cares had held with their Jingle Jam.

Biscuits and sweets were also provided by the Blue Flame, a South African Police Services Reservist Initiative. There was a lot of smiles and laughter with all the recipients and participants on the day.

The objective was to bring joy to the lives of the people visited and also to create an awareness of the South African Police Services, during this festive season, whereby they are seen in a positive light to serve the community and not just be part of the story many parents tell their youngsters.

In that, if you misbehave, the police will lock you up. The South African Police Service wants the youngster to have more faith and trust in them, to be able to come forward to report a crime.

The South African Police Service also wants to create better relationships with the elderly and people with disabilities to be the eyes and ears of the community. All in all, better relationships will benefit all in the community.
