Randburg loves to run
PRAEGVILLE – Another Randburg Harriers Valentine's Night Run draws thousands of runners, despite rainy weather.
Tutus, cat ears and other colourful outfits abounded as community members once again expressed their love for running at the Hot 91.9 Valentine’s Night Race.
Rain fell for most of the day but when the horn sounded on 15 February the skies cleared, allowing runners to complete the annual 10km Randburg Harriers run in relative comfort.

Marshalls and Metro police ensured traffic flowed constantly and runners were kept safe as they made their way from Randburg Sports Complex through the neighbouring suburbs and back.
Race director, Liesl Koch said load-shedding had been scheduled for that evening before it was cancelled, but organisers had back-up generators in place anyway.

“The run was a roaring success,” she said. “We had a good working relationship with Hot 91.9FM and I hope they will stay on as sponsors next year.”
This year three charities will benefit from proceeds of the run. These include Ann Harding Cheshire Homes, Wandsworth School and Little Rose Centre. Koch said the total funds raised were still being calculated but they already exceeded last year’s contribution.

To help raise funds, Ann Harding Cheshire Homes cooked pancakes on the night and sold nearly all the pancakes they could make.
A vibrant atmosphere prevailed throughout the night, with Hot 91.9FM playing music on the route, and live band, Brent Harris and Thee Jam, playing at the start and finish.

Next up for Randburg Harriers is the Easter 100, a series of runs over the Easter weekend that covers 100km in total.
Runners can already register for this event by contacting the running club.
