Panda Pen’s up-and-coming firefighters
BOSKRUIN – Panda Pen Nursery School children had fun with the firefighters at Cosmo City fire station.
City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services, who are based in Cosmo City, visited the Panda Pen Nursery School to teach the children what it is like being a firefighter.
According to principal Caressa duToit, all classes came outside and each class was given a chance to enter the truck to see the equipment that the firefighters work with on a day-to-day basis.
“It is important for the children to see the different people who help the community and we are grateful that the firefighters came through to help us educate our kids,” she said.

Tina Parag, a parent at the school, said, “Firefighters are not just here to help the community, but they are also the people our children look up to.”
Parag added that it was nice to see the kids’ little smiling faces.
“You need a community to raise a wonderful child,” she said.

The acting platoon commander of the emergency services Rose More said, “It is important for us to come to the school to educate the kids about being a firefighter because some of the kids, when they see us in uniform, cannot differentiate between a police officer and a firefighter.”
