Councillor excited about replacement of aging infrastructure
RANDPARK RIDGE – "After months and months of driving this issue home, the replacement of ageing water infrastructure has been approved," said Ward 134 councillor Wendy Alexander.
Ward 134 councillor Wendy Alexander is happy that the replacement of ageing water infrastructure in her ward will finally take place.
She said, “After months and months of driving this issue home, the replacement of ageing water infrastructure has been approved.”
This latest project kicked off on 18 July and was the replacement of the sewer pipe located on Randpark Drive within Hymany Park, affectionately dubbed by residents in the area as the ‘Tamatie Lyn’.
The issue of ageing infrastructure in the Ward 134 area has been reported on by the Randburg Sun on numerous occasions in the past year.
Many incidents include electricity problems, burst water pipes and sewer drainage, often leaving residents in the area without services for days on end.
In 2017, Alexander commented on an incident in Karee Street explaining that frequent pipe bursts were due to old cement and asbestos pipes that needed to be replaced with new ones. While Joburg Water was quick to respond, an incident like this would leave resident without water for hours.
Commenting on this latest project Alexander said, “The sewer pipe was putting the environment at risk due to the increase in the risk of sewer spillages into the spruit area. I would like to thank the Randburg Joburg Water Depot for all their assistance in driving this process.”
Alexander drew attention to additional projects in the area that will also be commencing soon.
“We will be starting shortly with a project within the Pampoen Spruit near Duiker Avenue just below the Lifestyle Centre to improve water infrastructure there,” said Alexander.
