Seacom gives back to Kingsway

RANDPARK RIDGE – Seacom helped to renovate the offices and kitchen of the Kingsway School.

Telecommunications company Seacom joined the children and staff of Kingsway School and Centre of Concern as they hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to launch the school’s newly renovated offices and kitchen.

Seacom said that they have supported Kingsway for the last three years, investing in many areas of need at the school.

This year they decided to create a better working condition for the teachers and kitchen staff at the school after renovating the school’s kitchen and offices at an estimated cost of over R100 000.

Seacom’s chief commercial officer Steve Briggs said, “We have had a long history with Kingsway, as we believe that what the school does for its community aligns to our core values too. We have done quite a bit of work at the school and the primary focus was to redo the school kitchen, so we replaced the countertops and cupboards, and also focused on health and safety items, including a new and safer gas cooker, and new cooking utensils.

“For the office section, there is new furniture. All of this furniture comes from a company that we acquired last year, where staff moved to our head office and did not need this office furniture anymore.”

The company hopes that their recent contribution to the school will uplift the teachers and students and aid in the day to day functioning of the school in a massive way.

Kingsway’s Lara Lotter said, “We have always had an amazing partnership with Seacom. Our old office and kitchen floors were really old, run-down slate floors with horrible thin carpeting over it that caused a lot of dust and dirt problems. Our kitchen was also in desperate need of renovation. It is so great that Seacom found it in their hearts to renovate our floors and kitchen, we have so much space now to make food for the children and staff, and a much neater working environment. It has been such a refreshing experience.”

This particular project lines up to three important things for the company, Nelson Mandela Day, Seacom’s own founder’s day and the 10th anniversary of the company’s establishment.

“Our founder’s day is on 23 July, this is where the first undersea cable was initialised. Our 10-year anniversary also takes place this year. We are so proud that we were able to do this for our community,” said Briggs.

To celebrate its 10th Foundation Day, the organisation will be taking part in community-based projects across the country and continent, in the hopes of bettering the lives of Africans everywhere.

The company believes that all 300 children and staff will greatly benefit from this gift.
