Wheel Well is for children in road safety
STRIJDOM PARK – The Wheel Well campaign has committed to furthering the agenda of road safety and Halo Beanies is one way this manifests.
Wheel Well has dedicated itself to the safety of children on the road. The organisation recently hosted a Car Seat 101 class which began to delve into the knowledge all car seat owners would benefit from. Founder and owner of the organisation Peggie Mars also explained how the law is best-practice which means that there is still a great deal we can and should do to ensure the safety of our children on the roads – this is where Wheel Well has come in.

“Children are at risk for road traffic injuries for a number of reasons. Younger children are limited by their physical, cognitive and social development, making them more vulnerable in road traffic than adults… Younger children may also be impulsive, and their short attention spans mean that they struggle to cope with more than one challenge at a time,” emphasised Wheel Well.

Wheel Well has recently partnered with primary schools to, in the words of the organisation, ‘ensure a safer pedestrian population’.
This is where the idea of Halo Beanies has come to save the day. Halo Beanies are beanies and scarves with reflective trims on them for children to wear which make them more visible at times of the day where light is limited. They are manufactured with the help of sponsors and distributed to primary schools which have expressed interest in areas where children are likely to be pedestrians.

The clothing:
- can be seen from 360 degrees
- can be seen from up to 110 meters away
- is seen by day and night
- gives drivers adequate time to react after spotting pedestrians
- comes in different colours
- can happily be embroidered with specific logos
- is not restricted to winter apparel and can be developed for summer clothing items.

This is just one way the Wheel Well campaign has furthered its mission to keep children safe on the roads.
