COSMO CITY – MMC for Finance Funzela Ngobeni had a productive time during the A Re Sebetseng clean-up campaign on 17 August.
MMC for Finance Funzela Ngobeni had a wholesome time giving back to the community of Cosmo City during the Mayor’s A Re Sebetseng clean-up campaign on 17 August.
Ngobeni, who hails from Cosmo City, was joined by various City officials, Pikitup, the Metro police, Ward 100 councillor Mapula Mosito, and Ward 97 councillor Leah Knott who helped to clean areas in the town.
Speaking to his team on the day, Ngobeni said, “The purpose of today serves as an appeal to the community to help keep our areas clean on a daily basis.”
The team distributed refuse bags to volunteers who joined in to help on the day and left the collected bags filled with litter gathered from the area for Pikitup to collect.

Ngobeni drew attention to vacant land at the corner of Sierra Leone and Porto Novo streets in Ext 6 where some residents have used the land as an illegal dumping site. “There is a lot of areas where there has been illegal dumping, so we are here to help in those areas too and create an awareness in the community to fight it.”

He also noted the problem of blocked drains and how a bit of community education can help to fix the problem.
He said, “We are always working on educational programmes to teach and engage with our residents about environmental problems. One of the problems that residents need further education on is the problem of flushing foreign objects down their toilets into the sewer systems. A lot of drains get blocked, allowing sewage to spew into the street and litter it.”
