Two suspects between the ages of 22 and 23 are expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court to face charges of common robbery.
It is alleged that a victim was headed to deliver food in Ferndale on 14 October when the suspects grabbed and searched him.
According to the head of communication for the Randburg Police Station, Captain Makgowanyana Maja, the suspects robbed the victim and fled the scene on foot. “He [the victim] noticed the security officers around and informed them. The suspects were chased and arrested.”
Station Commander Brigadier Michelle Jones applauded the security officers for their response, emphasising that their involvement in preventing crime remains crucial. “It is yielding positive results in curbing the crime around the policing area,” Maja added.
Jones would like to further urge more security companies to get involved through availing themselves on security crime combating forums to share information with the police and plan together.
