D’Angel seeks to celebrate all talents

WINDSOR – Meladi d'Angel seeks to encourage the exploration of all talents.

“What drives me is that people are beautiful and that’s what I would like to connect with,” were the words of Meladi d’Angel. D’Angel has spent the last couple years devoted to the development of talents people often bury, in favour of the talents they have chosen to pursue as career paths.

The Limpopo-born D’Angel obtained qualifications in architecture, project management and senior management from the University of Cape Town. She then proceeded to study under the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency in Stockholm Sweden and the Stellenbosch University Business School.

D’Angel went on to practice in both the private and public sectors in South Africa, before she dedicated her time, towards the empowerment of others through her business, Talents Mapping. She began her journey with a Randfontein orphanage and has gone on to assist groups and businesses to reach their full potential.

“There’s got to be an entry point into that because people are focused on getting a job – that’s all. ‘If I can only get that qualification [to get the job]…’ That’s where most people’s focus is, not realising that their focus should be on talents that they naturally have as an inner strength… My entry point is meeting them where they are.”

The mother of one has not disputed the importance of education and having the relevant knowledge which has led to success in a particular field. She championed the idea that there was more to individuals than what they often give attention to, which is often channelled through qualifications or formal training. “I do strongly believe that we should, as early as we can, zoom in on the fact that we have got natural talents and not just one.”

D’Angel wished to encourage the self-awareness of people she works with to remind them of talents which they may have side-lined. She spoke of her own experience where she has always had a variety of interests which she has pursued throughout her life, which has always led her to another talent.
