The Johannesburg West Cluster police are celebrating the arrest of 174 suspects during the festive season period.
Honeydew Police spokesperson Captain Balan Muthan said that from 30 December 2019 to 5 January 2020, various operations commenced that saw many roadblocks and stop-and-searches conducted throughout the policing precinct.
“Our festive season crime-fighting plans kicked into motion long before the holiday period started. High visibility patrols at shopping centres were mandatory with new police constables who had come from the police college to boost the reduction of crime.
“All liquor stores and other liquor outlets were closed during the specified times as well. These operations will continue until further notice.”
Police stations and areas included in the Johannesburg West Cluster include Randburg, Honeydew, Diepsloot, Douglasdale, Linden, Florida, and Roodepoort.
All suspects will appear soon in various Magistrates’ Courts in the area.
Muthan added, “As the Honeydew Police Station, we would like to say a big thank you to all role players for their efforts in seeing to it that our community felt safe during the festive period.”
