The Douglasdale Police Station recently visited Cosmo City Mall for the Coffee with a Cop (CWAC) initiative. The programme began last year and has prioritised a strengthened relationship between community members and the different arms of the police service.

The is was the fourth visit initiated by the police, where they previously visited Fourways Crossing, Fourways Mall and Dainfern Square.
Eddie Wren conceptualised the idea of Coffee with a Cop after he decided that he would like to extend the reach that he had been doing in schools in partnership with the police to visit learners and destigmatise the presence of the police in the community and surrounds. Through the initiative, Wren has extended the project to adults and endeavoured to break down the stigma community members have about the police service.

“[Coffee with a Cop] breaks down barriers the community has up against the police, over a cup of coffee,” elaborated Wren.
Community Police Forum chairperson of Sector 2 Lizzy Mabena was pleased that Coffee with a Cop has made its way to the area. Mabena mentioned that community members visited the marquees at the car park of Cosmo City Mall to learn about the police, certify documents and get affidavits. These services were welcomed by Sector 2 residents, where some were able to report information on crime being committed in the area by word of mouth or make suggestions in a book made available at the event.
