IN PICTURES: Joburg Mayor Geoff Makhubo visits Kya Sand on day 8 of the lockdown

KYA SAND – The Joburg Mayor inspected Kya Sand informal settlement to see if lockdown regulations were being followed.

After the City of Johannesburg’s large scale roadblock operations earlier today, 3 April, Joburg Mayor Geoff Makhhubo made a site visit to Kya Sand Informal Settlement to see if lockdown regulations were being adhered too.

The mayor was in the area to see if social distancing was being practised and inspected the hygiene levels, particularly after the government announced that informal traders could sell during the lockdown but only after they obtain permits.  During his visit, Makhubo was concerned to see some informal traders selling without permits.

Previously, the government’s lockdown measures meant that informal traders could not sell.

The mayor was joined by other City officials as they also handed out masks and gloves to the community.
