Liquefied Petroleum Gas Safety Association of Southern Africa (LP Gas) visited Boi Puso High School in Bloubosrand in honour of Mandela Day.
The association was accompanied by a representative from the department of health to oversee the event, and main sponsor African Gas Equipment. Masks and hand sanitisers were donated to 52 learners at Boi Puso after an interactive presentation by public relations and media liaison officer ofLP Gas, Gaahele Mokgoro. The principal of Boi Puso Asher Nyirenda and representatives from African Gas Equipment then took the stage to address the teenagers. Mokgoro covered the nature and characteristics of gas, safety precautions and the use of gas, as well as the pursuit of a career in this field. Clarence Maifo and Daniel Cilliers from African Gas Equipment expanded on the possibilities in the gas industry, and provided specific information about how to break into this lucrative industry. “Our organisation has pledged to sponsor one learner after matric with full LPGas installer training at our cost,” beamed Mokgoro.

African Gas Equipment was this year’s main sponsor and donated R6 900 to purchase masks and sanitisers for the learners as well as the school. The sanitisers and masks were distributed in navy blue drawstring bags to the high school learners to commemorate Mandela Day. Nyirenda was pleased with the donation from all stakeholders in a time of grave uncertainty. A representative from the department of health Sello Masalesa confirmed that all the relevant procedures and protocols were observed, in light of the Covid-19 pandemic.
