Female-led police operation for Women’s Day
COSMO CITY – The women of Honeydew Police Station engaged in a female-led operation called Operation Okae Molau 'Basadi'.
In honour of National Women’s Day, the women of Honeydew Police Station engaged in a female-led operation to help spread awareness about gender-based violence and Covid-19 safety.
As part of Operation Okae Molau ‘Basadi’, the officers set up a roadblock on the corner of Marina Road and South Africa Drive in Cosmo City during the early morning of 7 August.
Honeydew police spokesperson Captain Balan Muthan said that the operation included female constables, warrant officers lead by their captains and a small number of backup from fellow male officers.
“As the police, Women’s Month is something very close to our hearts. Our female officers work just as hard, if not harder than their male counterparts, and most importantly, they put their lives on the line daily to ensure that members of the public stay safe,” he said.
Officers handed out pamphlets to drivers passing through the roadblock with information to help educate the community about how to curb gender-based violence and how to curb the spread of Covid-19.
The officers stopped passing motorists to check their vehicles for anything illicit such as weapons, drugs, alcohol and illegal cigarettes, as well as checking for stolen motor vehicles.
Captain Karen Jacobs said, “It is important for the public to see that there is a strong female police presence, working just as hard as our male counterparts. We are proud to show our strength not just this Women’s Month, but every day that we put on our uniforms.”
