The Rotary Club, with the support of the Johannesburg City Parks and Zoos, spent the afternoon of 12 September repairing and refurbishing two bird hides at Delta Park. The park is home to the Florence Bloom Bird Sanctuary which hosts a variety of bird species.
The bird hides were originally built many years ago through a partnership with the Rotary Club itself. Over the recent years the facility became a victim of vandalism.
A group from the club spent two days repairing the shelving, benches and fence before giving it a fresh coat of paint. By the end of the weekend, the club was proud of what it was able to complete.
Club president David Haddon hopes that this will encourage more people to come to the park and enjoy the facilities.
“With Delta Park having been out of bounds for a period during lockdown, we grew to appreciate how valuable the park is to all of us and that we all have a responsibility to keep it well maintained”, said Haddon.
