Aspiring Hoërskool Randburg actor to take on World Monologue Games

“I am so excited to be competing for my country in this amazing event. It's an honour to be selected,” said Britz.

Hoërskool Randburg’s aspiring young actor Jan-Rudolf Britz has been selected for the World Monologue Games Regional Finals, one of 14 global events featuring the best international competitors.

Theatres and film sets around the world are closed for business, but this did not stop Britz’s passion for performing.

The youngster is part of the Linda Theron Drama Studio who submitted an entry to World Monologue Games, a global event with more than 3 000 competitors from over 80 countries vying for prizes and glory. Only 10 finalists have been selected for the African and American regional finals, of which Britz is one.

“I am so excited to be competing for my country in this amazing event. It’s an honour to be selected,” said Britz.

The only restriction for the performers was a total prohibition on any monologues about the coronavirus. The rest was up to the performer and Britz will be performing a piece about Alexander the Great. “I love performing this piece. Alexander motivates his army to do the seemingly impossible, going further East than any army has ever gone before. He inspires the tired soldiers and motivates them to courageously conquer in their historical last battle before returning home.”

The regional finals will be live-streamed on 19 September at 2.30pm, with the winners of each category competing in the global finals in front of hundreds of thousands of performing arts fans.

Britz asked his community to support his journey by watching and voting for him after the live stream.
