Taiwan on board with Randburg businesses

For many years, the Taiwanese government has had a strong relationship with RCCI, co-organising events and facilitating the nurturing of Taiwanese/South African business relationships.

Randburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) was honoured to meet with representatives of the Taipei Liaison Office on 22 September.

The Taiwanese group visited RCCI to share some of their wisdom in business, and to strengthen the relationship between their government and Randburg businesses by delivering a memorandum of agreement.

For many years, the Taiwanese government has had a strong relationship with RCCI, co-organising events and facilitating the nurturing of Taiwanese/South African business relationships.

“Investment in South Africa is something that we are trying to encourage strongly. Building a firm relationship on a physical level is very important to us, and we are honoured to be facilitating this,” said Taipei Liaison Office Economic Division director Laura Liang.

Liang handed over a certificate in the form of a mutual agreement between Taipei Import and Export Association and RCCI.

“We have a close relationship with the Taiwanese people and we support their products. There is a great bilateral agreement between us,” said the president of RCCI Danie Bezuidenhout.

The bilateral agreement means that Taiwan helps South Africa’s economy to create jobs through developing new technology and great innovations, and the importation of Taiwanese products.

“They have always been instrumental in flying our representatives over to their country to help understand their economy and learn from it. The nice thing about their country is the way their exports exceed their imports, and this is a value that our country should follow,” added Bezuidenhout.

Liang added that the Covid-19 pandemic had been very difficult in this facilitation but it had been handled expertly.

“Two main banks in both Taiwan and South Africa, along with the help of our president, have helped to keep these relationships going through the lockdown period, and we have worked hard for this. We are all in this together, and we need to fight against it together,” she said.

Taipei Liaison Office donated 500 face masks to RCCI that will be distributed to business who need them.

“We are happy to share our experience with South Africans. We have taken the pandemic very seriously, and our country has done an amazing job in the fight against Covid-19, only having 405 confirmed cases and seven deaths. Everyone has played their part in the fight against it,” she continued.

Liang added that the Taiwanese would aim to engage in a variety of online meetings with RCCI and Randburg businesses towards the end of the year.
